The Presiding Justices of the four Departments of the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court have issued a Joint Statement dated December 1, 2020, announcing the removal of the inquiries concerning United States citizenship and immigration status from the Application for Admission to the Bar of the State of New York. This decision was reached after detailed analysis by the four Departments of the Appellate Division and has been implemented pursuant to Judiciary Law § 90 (1) and the rules of both the Court of Appeals and the Appellate Division relating to the admission of attorneys. The new Bar Application will be available on the website of the New York State Board of Law Examiners on December 31, 2020, the effective date of the Application's revision.
