Justice Robert C. Mulvey

Judge MulveyHon. Robert C. Mulvey was elected a Justice of the New York State Supreme Court in November, 2000. His chambers are in Ithaca and he presides chiefly over matters in Tompkins County.

Justice Mulvey was appointed Administrative Judge of the Sixth Judicial District in July, 2009. The Sixth Judicial District is comprised of Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Otsego, Schuyler, Tioga, and Tompkins counties. His duties include oversight of court operations in the Supreme, County, Family, Surrogate, City, Town and Village courts.

Since 2005 he has served on the Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics. He has been a frequent lecturer on ethics and trial practice to judicial and bar groups.

Born and raised in Geneva, New York, Justice Mulvey received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University College at Cortland in 1977 and a Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School in 1980. He practiced law with his uncle Richard I. Mulvey and with Jonathan Albanese in Ithaca. He served as an Assistant District Attorney for Tompkins County, as Tompkins County Attorney, and as Legislative Counsel for State Senator James L. Seward.

He is married to Sandra (Lockwood) Mulvey. They have two children, Lisa and Brian.
