Karen B. Rothenberg is an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court and the Supervising Judge of the Civil Court, Kings County, having been appointed to that post in January, 2001, by the Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York. Judge Rothenberg graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1981 and received her Bachelors degree from S.U.N.Y. at Albany. Until her county-wide election to the bench in Brooklyn in November 1997, Judge Rothenberg was an attorney in private practice, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in the trial of personal injury matters. She also taught tort and insurance law at NYC Technical College, was a member of the Grievance Committee, 2nd & 11th Judicial Districts, and a member of the Appeals Board of the NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles..
Judge Rothenberg is an active member of the Brooklyn Womens Bar Assoc., the Brooklyn Bar Association and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and has lectured and/or served as faculty at Civil Court’s annual seminar and at New Judges Orientation. She has authored a number of published decisions and articles and is the recipient of several awards.
