Family Court Services Available

  • Facility Nursery - limited availability 631-582-2175. Open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The facility can only accept eight children at a time. Once the facility is full, a waiting will be compiled. The nursery will accept children aged one to thirteen, and children accepted must be walking.
  • Library Resource Program - Library Resources for the Public Program (LLRP) offices are located in Central Islip and Riverhead. Staff in these offices cannot give you legal advice, but they can provide general information about court rules and procedures, supply samples of court forms, provide computers (with internet access) and printers to enable the public to research legal issues and complete any on-line court forms. The Library Resources for the Public Program is currently a walk-in service. However, appointments are preferred and may be scheduled by calling the appropriate location listed below.

  • Transcription Services (fee based) - A party to an action, and any individual authorized by statute to obtain a transcript (stenographer and/or electronically recorded proceedings) may do so by filing a request in the General Clerks Office. Please note that in:
    a) Proceedings utilizing a court reporter (stenographer) - you will be contacted by a court reporter, who will provide a cost estimate and an approximate delivery date.
    b) Proceedings utilizing electronic recording - the General Clerks Office will provide you with a list of authorized transcription firms, and instructions for obtaining transcripts. Cost estimates, and a delivery date, will be provided by the transcription firm.
    NOTE: Transcripts may be ordered up to FIVE YEARS after a court appearance.
  • Interpreter Services - Spanish interpreters are available. All other languages, including sign language, for future dates upon request.
  • Copies of Orders/Including Dispositional Orders - The Family Court staff may provide copies of orders, including dispositional orders, to those individuals authorized by statute and case law to have access. Litigants can go to the General Clerks Office to submit a written request for an order. Photo identification must be produced. Copies are generally not provided instantly, and are usually mailed to the requesting party. Not all files are kept on premises and it may take time to retrieve a file from our off-site archives.
    Requests submitted via U.S. Mail will be honored if you are authorized by statute to receive a copy (generally, you are a party to the action). These written requests must include a properly notarized signature. Please also supply a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage affixed.
  • Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Forms Generating Programs and Workstations - Free and easy guided step-by-step programs are now available to help you fill out Family Court forms from any Internet accessible computer at NYCourtHelp

    The computer programs ask you questions, and then uses your answers to prepare a typed petition that can be filed in Family Court. This process may save you a trip to court, and save you time from handwriting a petition. Computer workstations and printers are available for public use outside the General Clerks Office in our Central Islip and Riverhead Family Court locations. In addition, computer workstations and printers are available for your use in the Library Resource Program Offices (locations listed above). Family Treatment Center

The Suffolk County Family Treatment Court is located in the Cohalan Court Complex and provides enhanced services to parents who have been found neglectful of their children as a result of alcohol and/or substance abuse. The Family Treatment Court ensures the safety and well-being of children, and is committed to enabling children to live in a nurturing, safe, and stable environment. Employing a strength-based program, the Family Treatment Court affirms the dignity of the individual while respecting the integrity of the family.

The Family Treatment Court has created working partnerships with community-based substance abuse and mental health treatment providers; including the Department of Social Services, Department of Health, and Education & Assistance Corp. (EAC). These community-based agencies provide services to participants through group, individual, and family counseling sessions. Participants are monitored through weekly judicial supervision and the support services of a case manager. EAC and Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) workers provide enhanced monitoring of children, with increased attention to their needs. CASA workers additionally ensure that children who are away from a parent live in a loving and stable environment. The Family Treatment Court has had a positive effect over hundreds of families within the last decade.
