East Pulteney Square, Bath, NY
Houses: Supreme, County and Family Courts
Judicial District: Seventh
Although Steuben County has courthouses in 3 cities; Corning, Hornell and Bath, only those in Bath have any historical significance. Situated on the east side of the Pulteney Square village green are four buildings of architectural merit. The County Courthouse of 1859 replaced two earlier courthouses, the second being destroyed by fire; it is a very good example of late Greek Revival style. Adjacent to the courthouses are two smaller brick Victorian structures, the old County Office Building and the Surrogate's Building of 1886, both these buildings and the courthouse are virtually unchanged since built.
