Conference Invitation

Dear Colleagues:

On November 18, 2008, The Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission on Minorities will host a conference on “Innovative Strategies to Nullify Gang Violence in Our Communities”at the Judicial Institute, 84 North Broadway, White Plains, New York on the campus of Pace University School of Law.

Our keynote speaker is Dr. David Brotherton, Chair of the Sociology Department from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Bob DeSena, President of the Council for Unity will present an overview of his program and the Riverhead Comprehensive Community Model. In addition, there will be a presentation by District Attorneys from various counties in New York State and breakout sessions where you can discuss particular areas of interest regarding gang activities and solutions in Schools, Corrections, Law Enforcement and Community involvement.

As gang violence threatens the lives and safety of young people in our communities, we are hoping that you will be able to join us at this solution based conference. Also attending will be judges, government agency representatives, school officials and community groups. If we are ever going to stop the intimidation of our citizens by gangs, this problem must be addressed by all the leaders in the community.

We invite you to join us in this dialogue and the development of recommendations to curb Gang Violence in Our Communities.

Sincerely,

Signed Lou

Hon. Lewis L. Douglass, Chair
