The Institute's concluding convocation in the Lawyer Independence series will be held in November 2013 to offer perspectives, insights and lessons learned. A lawyer’s independence from undue pressure or bias, from a client or fellow practitioner or prevailing political winds directly impacts the lawyer’s professionalism. This concept has been examined in a variety of practice contexts beginning with a convocation on the role of general counsel at law firms, followed by an examination of attorneys in government. Next, the Institute engaged in an exploration of the unique influences and issues of risk management and ethics affecting small firms and solo practitioners. The role of general/ in-house corporate counsel was the topic of the fourth convocation focusing on lawyers who work in corporate or business enterprises.
