New Queens Supreme Court Administrative Judges Named

QUEENS, NY - Chief Administrative Judge Jonathan Lippman today announced the designation of two new Administrative Judges for the Queens County Supreme Court. Justice Jeremy Weinstein is being appointed as the Administrative Judge of the Civil Term and Justice Randall Eng as Administrative Judge of the Criminal Term. The appointments were made with the approval of Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye and after consultation with Presiding Justice A. Gail Prudenti of the Appellate Division, Second Department. Judges Weinstein and Eng replace Hon. Leslie G. Leach, who was been named Deputy Attorney General of State Counsel by Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo.

Judge Lippman said. “I welcome Judge Eng and Judge Weinstein as the Administrative Judges for the Criminal and Civil Term. With a keen intellect, thoughtful approach and almost twenty years of experience on the criminal bench, Justice Eng has earned the respect and admiration of both his colleagues and members of the Bar. Justice Weinstein also brings a wealth of experience to his new position. He has displayed a willingness to take on new challenges and has a firm grasp of the complexities of civil practice. He has done a superb job in his current role as Supervising Judge of the New York City Civil Court in Queens County. I know Justices Eng and Weinstein will bring enormous dedication and enthusiasm to their new posts. I look forward to working closely with both of them.” Judge Lippman added “I am grateful to Judge Leach for his dedication and commitment to the courts. He did an outstanding job as the Administrative Judge and we wish him the very best in his new position. ”

Justice Weinstein has been the Supervising Judge of the Queens Civil Court for the past ten years. He was elected to the Supreme Court in 1999 and served an Acting Supreme Court Justice for three years prior to his election. He was first elected to the Civil Court in 1993. Judge Weinstein served in the New York State Senate from 1979 to 1992. He is a life long New York resident who received his law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1974.

Justice Eng was elected to the Supreme Court in 1990 and served as an Acting Supreme Court Justice from 1988 to 1991. He was first appointed to the New York City Criminal Court in 1983. Justice Eng worked for the City of New York from 1981 to1983 as the Inspector General for the New York City Department of Correction. He served as a Queens County Assistant District Attorney from 1973 to 1980. Justice Eng was born in Canton, China and received his law degree from St. John’s University School of Law in 1972.

The appointments are effective immediately.
