New Supervising Judges for New York City Family Court Announced

NEW YORK – Chief Administrative Judge Ann Pfau today announced the appointments  of three new Supervising Judges for New York City Family Court: Hon. Monica Drinane as Supervising Judge of Bronx County Family Court; Hon. Douglas Hoffman as Supervising Judge of New York County Family Court; and Hon. Carol Stokinger as Supervising Judge of Queens County Family Court. The appointments were made in consultation with the Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for the Courts in New York City, Fern Fisher, and the Administrative Judge of New York City Family Court, Edwina Richardson-Mendelson. The appointments take effect immediately.

Hon. Monica Drinane has been a Family Court judge since 2004. From 1998 to 2004, she served as Attorney-in-Charge of The Legal Aid Society Juvenile Rights Division. She held numerous other positions within the organization from 1985 through 1998, including Deputy Attorney in Charge in the Manhattan Trial Office, Attorney in Charge of the Bronx Trial Office, Attorney in Charge of the Manhattan Trial Office and Deputy Attorney in Charge of the Juvenile Rights Division. Judge Drinane replaces Judge Clark V. Richardson, who will continue to serve as a New York County Family Court judge.

Judge Hoffman was appointed to the New York County Civil Court in 1996 and has been a judge of the Family Court since 2003. Prior to his ascension to the bench, he held several positions with The Legal Aid Society, including Staff Attorney for the Harlem Neighborhood Office, Attorney in Charge of the Brooklyn Office for the Aging, Manhattan Director of Training and Bronx Director of Litigation. Judge Hoffman replaces Judge Jane Pearl, who will continue to serve as a Family Court judge in Bronx County.

From 1977 to 2000, Judge Stokinger served as an Assistant District Attorney in New York County holding the positions of Deputy Trial Bureau Chief and Chief of the Family Violence and Child Abuse Bureau. She has been a judge of the Family Court since 2000. Judge Stokinger replaces Judge Edwina Richardson-Mendelson, who has been appointed Administrative Judge of the New York City Family Court.
