Tour a Real Courthouse
Through the Court Tours Community Outreach Program, students in Grades 4 through college can learn about courts and court proceedings through group visits to courthouses throughout New York State. Please talk to your teacher or school administrator if you want to arrange a group visit.
New York City or Westchester
In New York City and Westchester County, court tours generally last three hours and include a brief history of the courthouse, an overview of the New York State Court System, an explanation of the stages of a trial (including the roles and responsibilities of courtroom staff), and a discussion of career opportunities in the courts. The students often have an opportunity to participate in a mock trial. When possible, a judge will speak to the visiting group briefly, sharing information about the trial process.
