Passport Information

The Kings County Clerk's Office processes applications for U.S. passports between the hours of 9:00 AM to 11 AM and 2 PM to 3:30 PM. The application requires that you provide proof of U.S. citizenship, proof of identity, photographs and pay a fee. You are required to appear in person at any County Clerk Office in New York City, or at most Post Offices to submit the application. Please allow four to six weeks for your passport to reach you by mail. Please review the following checklist of materials you need to apply for a passport.

Providing Proof of U.S. Citizenship
You must provide one of the following acceptable forms for proof of United States' citizenship:
- A previous U.S. passport
- A certified birth certificate or if you were born outside the United States, a certificate of naturalization.
All documents must be an original. No photocopies will be accepted.

To obtain a copy of a birth certificate for a person born in New York State, call the New York State Department of Health, Vital Records, at: 518-474-3077 or
at: www.health.state.ny.us/vita l_records .
To obtain a certificate of naturalization, call the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services at: l-800-375-5283 go to: www.uscis.gov.
Providing Proof of Identity
The following are acceptable forms to provide proof of identity:
- A valid driver's license
- An employment photo id from a government agency
- A military id or
- A valid college photo id
The Photographs You Need to Provide
You will need to bring one, 2 inch by 2 inch, passport size photograph of each person, at the time you apply.
Fees
The fee for a 10-year passport for persons aged 16 or older is $110.00.
The fee for a passport for a minor, aged 15 or younger is $80.00.
The above fees are payable to the U.S. Department of State, either by money order or personal check.
However, there is an additional processing fee of $25 is required in cash for each passport requested.

If You Are Not a Citizen, but Wish to Apply for a Passport for a Child Born in the United States
For non-citizens applying for a passport for a child born in the United States, the parents of the child must present their passports from their country, or a valid resident's card, or a work authorization card issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
