Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Housing Part of the Civil Court of the City of New York, also known as the New York City Housing Court. The Housing Court handles almost all the residential landlord-tenant cases in New York City, including eviction cases filed by landlords, repair cases filed by tenants and by the City of New York, illegal lockout cases filed by tenants, and cases complaining of harassment.

More than 200,000 cases are filed in the Housing Court each year. These cases are handled by our fifty judges with the assistance of our court attorneys, clerks, court officers and other nonjudicial staff. There is a Housing Court in each of the city’s five boroughs, as well as two local community courts, one in Harlem, in New York County, and one in Red Hook, in Kings County. The Housing Court is committed to providing fair and efficient justice to all of its litigants, whether they are landlords or tenants, whether they have a lawyer to represent them or not, whether they need accommodation for a disability or an interpreter in more than 100 different languages. We hope that this website provides the information you need to have meaningful access to our court.
